Fuck You Cover Bands
You are not real musicians.
You have no soul.
You are selling out the rest of us.
By playing cover songs in bars for drunk idiots, you are affirming the standard in America that creativity is wrong. Being a musician is the complete opposite of this. You might as well be playing Guitar Hero, or be a DJ. Both of which are much more honest. I know that some of you are just doing it for the money, but that is even worse. By hogging the attention of the moron consumer you are effectively forcing other musicians to follow your lead.
I can't count the number of times an average schmuck told me about their friends band that was awesome, getting me all hyped to see them. Then to reveal the fact they're not a real band, they only play covers. Well why would I want to see them then? Why would I want to support that?
How are we to evolve if we only copy what others have done?
Start believing in yourselves. The ability to be creative is in all of us. Sure, by writing your own songs there is a big chance people won't like it. Then you'll be a failure. To put yourself out like that is scary huh? YOU ARE A FUCKING COWARD. A collaborator in a system that is choking out free thought.
